Giveaway: A South African Souvenir

Howzit from South Africa!

I’ve already visited a few fabulous African markets and I still have a few more on the itinerary. I’d love to bring something home for a reader. It might be a tribal necklace, a wooden bowl, a lion… I just don’t know yet. But I do promise it will be a lekker (cool) package at your door if you win!

Here’s how you can win:

1. Leave a comment below telling me what you like to buy when you travel. (Sorry, but this will have no bearing on what you win so don’t tell me diamonds!)

2. Like me on Facebook. Like my sis on Facebook.

3. Practice your voodoo magic. Winner will be announced July 5th.

I like to buy ‘Angels’. Anything with an imprinted angel or a trinket, a card of some kind to remember my visit to wherever I am coming home from. ie: just got out of the hospital, (I know thats not world wide traveling) and stopped in at the gift shop and bought the tinyest little Angel. 🙂 Enjoy your amazing trip. Dina

  6. I love bracelets! I’m so jealous that you are in South Africa right now! My fiance and I are planning on moving there when I’m done with my pediatrics residency. I’m having a giveaway this week too (to be announced soon).

  7. First off, I am ordering one of whatever your favorite purchase is!!!
I really like to bring home artwork from my travels – my folk art prints from China cost $7 apiece and are still favorites in my home.

  8. Hi Kim! First, just want to say that I love your blog. 🙂
When traveling, I like to get myself hats, not that I ever wear them when I get back….
Hope you guys are having fun!

  9. Hope you’re having a blast in South Africa! I love to buy art work or chatzkies(sp?) that remind me of the my travels or something really unique to the place like the Capri sandals that are made to fit your foot 🙂

  10. Awesome giveaway! I love reading this blog 🙂

I love to buy souvenir keychain and shot glasses! Those are two things I collect! Also, I like to pick up something unique to wherever I’m traveling !

  11. I love buying art books or catalogues, and any art I can find – wooden statues, stone carvings.
I’ve liked you and your sis on FB 🙂

  12. I like to buy something that is special from that place. Like in Jamacia I bought a handcrafted out of local wood
a giraffe. In St. Lucia, a hand painted platter. Hawaii I took a black lava rock from a beach but years later I
heard this was bad luck so I mailed it back to the local Post Office! Now I have better luck!

  13. I enjoy books from the area to read, reread, and store on my shelf of travel books. Also, I am a music teacher, and musical instruments are also a fun souvenir!

  14. I love finding something totally specific to where I am traveling that cannot be found on the web. Last trip to Paris, I saw a tiny ceramic snail that sits upon a country kitchen stool. My friend thought I was crazy as I was talking about the snail through out the entire trip. On the last day before we headed to the airport we ran over to the shop and bought not one but two snails on a stool. After listening to me for 4 days, my friend had to have one too. To this day it is one of my favorite travel finds!!!

I like to buy everything when I travel! OMG! Toooo many choices! Very cool to read about your trip! Choose me!

  16. I ALWAYS look for BIG coffee mugs and of course a piece of clothing that has were ive been on it (Im such a typical tourist) Hope your having a great time exploring and enjoying the new experiences that Africa has to offer! Looking forward to seeing “that package” on my door stoop when I get home! haha

  17. I haven’t really traveled anywhere outside of my own province here in Canada, but I would like to buy magnets, I sorta have a fetish and plus you can never seem to have enough of them, especially with little ones around! The kids make soooo many drawing and stuff and where do they usually end up, on the fridge. I do like Jodie’s comment about the folk art prints though! It would be great to find the “local” Farmer’s market and just get some local trinket made by one of the locals.

  18. I love to collect stamps from other countries. 🙂 Love your blog. Thank you 🙂

  19. Natalie Rose says:

I love to collect cute necklaces and jewelry when I travel! I search for the most inexpensive jewelry, but ones that show off the character of the country I’m in! It’s my favorite thing to do! 🙂

  20. We love to buy Christmas Tree ornaments wherever we travel and it is such a nice reminder when we get out our decorations. We reminisce and tell our children about the “pre-Kid” ornaments and then they get the chance to remember the trips they went on!
