When Two Things Don’t Necessarily Go Together

I’m not sure what today’s recipe has to do with my favorite non-nursery rhyme, but I kept thinking of it as I was whipping these up. I guess because rice krispie treats make me feel like a kid. And making cake batter sprinkle krispie treats makes me feel like a really cool kid. Anyway back to the folklore from my childhood.. isn’t it funny that one of the only ones I remember by heart is the one that doesn’t make any sense?

One fine day in the middle of the night,
Two dead boys got up to fight,
Back to back they faced each other,
Drew their swords and shot each other,
A deaf policeman heard the noise,
And came to arrest the two dead boys,
If you don’t believe this story’s true,
Ask the blind man he saw it too!

Sometimes you just need to say silly rhymes, eat rice krispie treats, and enjoy life.

Cake Batter Krispie Treats

3 tablespoons butter
1 10-ounce bag of mini marshmallows ( i used regular sized)
1/4 cup yellow cake mix
6 cups rice krispies cereal (i used about 5 1/2 cups)
1 1.75-ounce container of sprinkles

Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat and add marshmallows. Stir until they begin to melt, adding in cake mix one spoonful at a time so its combined. Stir in cereal so it is completely coated with marshmallow mixture. Sprinkle in half of the sprinkles and mix. Spread mixture into a greased baking dish (any size will do), press to even out, and top with remaining sprinkles. Let sit for about 30 minutes before cutting. Spraying a knife with nonstick spray helps to cut them.     Source: How Sweet Eats

***Note: If you would like to use the remaining cake mix to whip up a batch of cake mix cookies, just measure out 6 oz. of the remaining cake mix, and combine it with 1/4 cup vegetable, grapeseed, or canola oil, and 1 egg. Stir until mixed. Then form into cookie dough balls, and bake in a 350 degree oven for 10-12 minutes.*** From: http://gimmesomeoven.com/cake-batter-rice-crispy-treats/
