My sister Jodie is blessed with a mother-in-law who is loving, helpful, and generous. But eight days after my nephew was born, Jodie forgot all that and really let her have it. You see, Jodie was hormonal, tired, and a bit frazzled while her mother-in-law was helping get the house ready for a family gathering. She asked (a few times) if Jodie knew where her trivets were. Jodie said no. A few times. But she knew Jodie had beautiful ones somewhere in the house so she kept looking (and asking). She asked Jodie one more time and I, the innocent bystander, just knew Jodie – the usually calm and patient one – was about to snap.
And that she did. She stood on the top of her steps and screamed, “I don’t have any #$%#$% trivets!!!”
So this DIY is dedicated to both my sister and her mother-in-law who luckily have shared many laughs (especially over trivets) since that day five plus years years ago.
Wine Cork Trivet DIY
All you need is a bunch of wine corks and superglue. If you don’t have 60 wine corks lying around the house you can ask your local wine shop, restaurants,bars etc. Just smile and you’d be amazed the bags full of corks your local bartender will fork over. (Folk on the UWS of NYC, Wine & Roses is very generous!)
Start by gluing* 3 corks together.
Continue to glue corks to each other until you have a circular shape.
It needs to be big enough to rest a pot on top.
Once its dry its ready to use.
* Don’t use a hot glue gun.
