Shut Up, Hair

I desperately want to be a shower-and-go kind of girl. But I’m not. My hair needs guidance. It needs to be shown what to do. It’s not my hair’s fault. I am the one who has been highlighting it for so long, it has no idea what its natural color is. I am the one who commands it be Straight. Then, Curly. Then, the Kardashian Killer Combo. Sadly, I’m not good at doing any of these, so I have acquired quite a collection of tools hoping one will work magic. In search of the perfect wave I practiced several tutorials which was very helpful, but I was still totally awkward around a traditional curling iron. But then I found this kink-free-thumb-free curling iron (Conair Infiniti XL You Curl) and I can finally do my hair. And, I swear, I heard my hair say thank you this morning.

Meet your new best friend. Make sure you get the "XL" - the standard size is too small of a barrel and your curls will be too tight.

It really is that easy. FYI - this is not me. And I don't use that bizarre finger glove she is rocking.

Here’s how I do it:

1. I think it works best to curl in sections. I put a good chunk of my hair up and start on the bottom, letting more hair down gradually.

2. Take 1 inch of hair at a time and wrap your hair around the iron away from your face. The handle should be on top. I had to play around with how long to keep my hair wrapped around the wand in order to get the right curl. For a beachy/casual wave it doesn’t need long. For a more formal do, I count to ten slowly.

3. Continue around your entire head. Don’t forget the back. I often forget the back.

4. Run fingers through the curls and spray with glossing or holding spray, whatever your hair needs.
