This season we’re seeing a ton of layering with accessories. While sorting through my jewelry box, I’ve been unsure which pieces to pair together and how to have it all come together without looking too matchy-matchy. So I’ve brought in the big guns to give us all a little lesson on layering. An expert in the field and my dear friend: Allison from AStarr Jewelry Concierge.
What are your suggestions for bracelets this fall?
AM: A beautiful sculptural cuff is totally fashionable on its own, but adding some other texture and styles such as links, bangles, or beads makes the look really modern and updated. The key here is to mix contrasting styles.
How many bracelets should you wear on one wrist?
AM: Start with 2 items and work your way up to more. We suggest going for odd numbers as it tends to have a nice balance on the arm – 3 to 5 is perfect.
What types of bracelets layer well together?
AM: Go for a link bracelet and pair it with a stud bangle. The rule here is that there are no rules so go ahead and create your own and whatever you decide to pair together will look fantastic!
I’m seeing so many celebrities piling on several large necklaces. What are your suggestions for layering on the neck?
AM: Partner big and bold jewels with delicate pieces. Try a personal charm necklace, a strand of stones, and crystal beads for your delicate and combine it with longer chunky necklaces. When layering, it’s more effective to use different lengths, shapes and sizes. So layer a 24″ necklace with several in 16″ and 18″ lengths. Long looped chains can be combined with a gemstone choker style necklace and a few other chains in between to get the look.
What about colors? Is there a way to work color into your necklace layers?
AM: Make a simple color story. Choose one vibrant color to create an eye-catching contrast when paired with elements like black, silver, and rhinestone. Pop your look with a red, yellow, green or orange and layer it with other neutrals to balance out your look. And throw away that old rule: you can wear silver with gold.
Thanks so much for the tips, Allison. Can’t wait to have you on loveumadly again!
