2.5 hrs from Manhattan is a Rhode Island beach town called Watch Hill. It’s our favorite weekend getaway, even in the fall. My parents’ home there has become the meeting spot for our brood. It’s low-key, a bit old-fashioned, and oozing shabby chic. There are a range of hotels in the area for different budgets from the Ocean House ($500 and up/night) to Langworthy Farm Inn ($120/night). You can surf, have your fill of fresh lobster rolls, and even ride the 128-year-old Flying Horse Carousel in town. And if your man rolls his eyes when you tell him about it, tell him Foxwoods Casino is only 25 minutes away. He’ll just smile and pack.
